SEAMLESS WORLD

Marco Polo, Ibn Batuta, Fa Hein
early explorers to chalk the land
but first were the Arabs who arrived
to trade in pepper, spices
then came the Europeans – Dutch, French,
Portuguese, English, only for business, they said

a medley of cultures seeped into the land
visitors relished quaint traditions
of the unknown spice land
and made clandestine plans
to reform pagan territory

an armada of armed forces guard
the shoreline today, history’s lessons not
easily forgotten,
while deep below the sea,
optic cables create
an alternate realm without boundaries,
barriers broken down by bits and bytes,
a wallless dimension integrates
the world

pagans are a people without religion or philosopy; otherwise it would constitute to an offensive term ….

Pagans, the name given to the natives of conquered lands by the invaders. Yes it is a derogative name not given by the poet but by the invaders.
    Liked it very much.
